The interim RECCo Board 2019
In March our five designated Directors, Kevin Woollard, Steve Mulinganie, Tracy Pitcher, Alex Travell and Richard Pomroy, representing different sectors within our industry, stepped down from their roles on the Board of RECCo.
It is no exaggeration to say that without them the creation of RECCo and the path to REC go-live and beyond would have been much more challenging. They each brought considerable knowledge and experience of industry and code governance to our executive Board during their three-year tenure. Their advice and support, collective decision-making, and generous time commitment helped shape RECCo into the professional and agile organisation it is today.
Ofgem must also take credit for recognising the importance of drawing on the considerable experience that resides in our industry. They appointed these Directors for their practical knowledge of code governance and to maintain a link with market participants in the crucial formative and transition phases of the REC and RECCo.
The enduring organisation evolved under their guidance and now consists of two main parts. The first is an operational team of experts under the direction of Sid Cox, RECCo’s CEO who have a sound understanding of what constitutes best practice in code governance and the retail energy market.
The second is an enduring Board made up of a small group of Non-Executive Directors to help guide the organisation: Helen Charlton, Roshan Awatar, Rosa Stewart, David Wylie, and Paul Hallas have experience in consumer matters, data and digitalisation, policy including ‘net-zero’, commercial matters, and the energy supply industry respectively.
The Board has also recently agreed to create the role of Special Advisor to help the Board and Executive team where there is a capability gap. The first of these has now been appointed and sees the return of Tracey Pitcher who has kindly agreed to help RECCo on networks issues over the coming year.
As Chairman of RECCo, I have enjoyed working with our designated Directors enormously; I want to thank them for all their hard work and commitment over the last three years. They have helped create an organisation that can genuinely deliver on its mission going forward. They are a credit to their organisations and our industry, and we wish them well in the future.
