Welcome to the latest edition of Inside RECCo! At RECCo, our focus this month has been to ensure that there is a smooth and professional transition of the governance for switching, as RECCo takes over from Ofgem. DCC, Ofgem and industry deserve credit for the progress made in this large and complex programme.
Moving forward, you will be aware that there are some snagging issues which require remediation. At RECCo, we have worked constructively and collaboratively with DCC, Ofgem and other parties to identify those issues and agree on a detailed ‘Work Off Plan’ for their resolution. If you have any questions or comments on what this change of governance means for you, please get in touch.
At an operational level, together with Xoserve, we’ve worked speedily to resolve API issues on the Gas Enquiry Service. Our teams are always on hand to make sure services meet all users’ needs. This drive for improvement is shown in other initiatives, such as the Code Manager’s review of the Secure Data Exchange Portal (SDEP) services, which I encourage all interested parties to engage with.
Turning to other projects, we are also heavily involved in the replanning of the MHHS programme and the consequential impacts on REC which are currently out of the scope of the MHHS programme. The planning documents have now been submitted to the Design Advisory Group (DAG).
We are currently surveying the Energy Theft Detection Incentive Scheme to ensure that it best supports suppliers in their duties to minimise energy theft. We would appreciate your feedback, which you can submit here.
We’ll be discussing our Theft Reduction Strategy at a seminar in London on 23rd November. If you’d like to attend, please register here. The seminar will include the outcome of this survey, information about the Theft Estimation methodology and more.
We will also be carrying out our first annual stakeholder satisfaction survey in November, as we look back on one year of live operations at RECCo. This survey is important to us and will help us serve all parties to the best of our ability in the future. You will receive a communication later this month with full details.
In the past month, we have responded to a BEIS consultation proposing a Smart Secure Energy System. We support their aims to press towards Net Zero by evolving current markets to better meet demand. We have offered further engagement, particularly to ensure that any changes that can be made via the REC are enacted as early as feasible - changing codes may be an efficient way to press forward more quickly than could be achieved via licences.
Finally, I have some exciting internal RECCo news to share. I am delighted to announce that Rachael Anderson, our Director of Corporate Affairs, safely welcomed the arrival of her baby boy in late September. This of course means that she will be taking a period of maternity leave, during which her role will partly be covered by Jonathan Ainley, who has joined us as Interim Director for Stakeholder Engagement and Communications. I am sure you will join me in wishing them both well.
Like you all, RECCo remains squarely focused on doing all we can to help households to navigate the coming winter and ensure that the energy retail markets operate in their interests. As I have outlined above, we will be asking for your input over the coming months to shape our future direction, and I thank you in advance for your participation.
I hope you enjoy this month's edition of the RECCo newsletter.
As always, if you have any suggestions on how we can better engage with you as our stakeholders, please email the team at communications@retailenergycode.co.uk.
