During late September and early October, the Gas Enquiry Service (GES) suffered from several incidents that caused the API to degrade. The incidents were investigated, and fixes were deployed. We regret the inconvenience caused to users during this time, but on a positive note believe the fixes have significantly improved the overall response time of the API. We continue to closely monitor the performance of the service.
We’re continuing to consider the long-term strategy of the Secure Data Energy Portal (SDEP) and improvements that can be made. SDEP provides a secure User-to-User communication service that allows EES Users to resolve any customer issues (predominately associated with a switch). We’ll be providing a review of SDEP report in the next few months.
RECCo and our providers have made tremendous efforts to provide the Government with all the necessary tools and information to allow their energy initiatives to progress as swiftly as possible. We continue to stand ready to do the best we can to help alleviate the impact of the global energy price on UK customers.
The Electricity Theft Tool is being updated due to an error identified. Please see the update from Energy Savings Trust below:
A discrepancy in the calculation method was identified with version 2.0 (tools 2020 and beyond).
Issue: Discrepancies in domestic electricity space heating values between historic versions (before v2.0) and newer versions (v2.0 to v2.3 inclusive).
Changes: Change in methodology on how average domestic electricity values were derived from NEED data. Previously used scaled gas space heating values. Newer versions used non-electrically heated homes electricity consumptions which will include effects from some oil and other non-electrically heated (excluding gas) homes. Have reverted to the older method as for most cases this is thought to be more accurate.
Impact: Variation in average electricity usage in homes between old and new methods. Difficult to quantify due to changes in datasets used but in extreme cases this could be 50% less than previous usage. In a small proportion of properties, the usage increases.
Dates impacted: All tools issued after 2020 will have been impacted by this issue.
We will be adding another layer of validation before future tools are released to mitigate issues such as this from happening in the future.
