Welcome to the latest edition of Inside RECCo. September marked the second anniversary of Retail Energy Code operations going live! This is a significant milestone for us, and on page 3, we have prepared an article to showcase some of our accomplishments over the last two years. During this time, we have developed significantly as an organisation, maturing into steady-state operations with a fully populated RECCo Board and a complete range of REC Services. We want to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has engaged with our work during that time and provided much-needed feedback. Your valuable feedback has helped us improve our company, services, and programmes.
I’m pleased to inform you that the Central Switching Service (CSS) Priority 1 incident officially closed on September 12th, 2023. We understand the industry’s frustration with the management of this incident and are working with the REC Performance Assurance Board and the DCC to ensure clear lessons are learned. We have commenced our independent incident review and seek your feedback to support this process. For more information on this matter, please click here.
Energy theft remains a significant concern for RECCo. I recently had the opportunity to showcase some of our progress in this area at the Energy Market Bodies Forum, which Ofgem hosted. Our partnership with Crimestoppers is instrumental in tackling this problem, and they operate our Energy Theft Tip-Off service. In recognition of two years of REC operations, we are highlighting the service's efforts to combat energy theft over the past year. You can learn more about this work on page 6.
We have included a new project in our portfolio this month. After its policy consultation, Ofgem has confirmed RECCo as the delivery partner for the PPM Levelisation process. This process aims to level the cost of standing charges on prepayment meters, and we will be explaining how we plan to implement it in a webinar on October 10th. To learn more and register, please turn to page 6.
Thank you to everyone who joined our webinar, ‘Introducing our data and digitalisation strategy,’ last week. We had a great turnout, indicating the increasing importance of our work in supporting industry systems and processes. The webinar discussed secure open data, digitalisation, and the evolution of REC services, systems, and processes. If you would like to re-watch the webinar or couldn’t attend, please find an overview of the event, a copy of the presentation slides, and the webinar recording here. A key deliverable of our data and digitalisation strategy is introducing an API gateway - a management tool between the end user and a collection of backend services. By introducing an API gateway to the services we are responsible for, REC Parties will access them using one simplified interface. This will also provide improvements in security, service visibility and efficiency. We have published a consultation to seek your views on this proposal, and you can read more and learn how to give feedback on page 5.
