Director Finance & Commercials
I’m RECCo’s Director of Finance and Commercial having been appointed in July 2021.
My involvement with RECCo actually goes back to 2019 when I was asked by Ofgem to develop a paper setting out options for RECCo’s target operating model and alternative approaches for the delivery of Code Manager services. In 2019, I then worked with the RECCo Board to establish the commercial framework for procuring the REC Code Manager and then led the commercial workstream in the procurement.
In 2015, I took a sabbatical from the energy industry to return to full time education to study for an MSc.Med qualifying in 2019 with a Masters in Osteopathy (with Distinction).
RECCo is committed to the efficient and effective running of the retail energy market, including its systems and processes. Despite being a “non-profit” making organisation, we will adopt a strong commercial approach to the procurement and management of our service providers. My team will, as a matter of course, procure services through competition seeking to secure value for money, balance quality of service and price, place risk with those best placed to manage it, and strike a fair balance in contracts between risk and reward. We will periodically market test any industry services which we’ve inherited as part of Retail Code Consolidation. We will not enter into contracts of longer than five years without establishing they represent value for money through independent market testing.
So what led me to this role at RECCo? After qualifying as an accountant in 1992, I worked for several years in a public transport services group including as Financial Controller of one of the privatised London Bus Companies and was involved in the bidding for and establishing a number of rail franchises. I joined the energy industry in 1999, working for a code body with the remit of transitioning the organisation from a project based environment post the “1998 Programme” to an operational model with the capacity and capability to develop and deliver commercial services.
I currently enjoy practicing as an Osteopath in a clinic in north London, where I live with my partner and our Labrador puppy. Our four children live close by and in my spare time I am a school governor, enjoy cycling, and am a lifelong supporter of Liverpool FC!
