This month we had the pleasure of speaking to Rosa, one of our new Non-Executive Directors who joined the Board in October.
Firstly, congratulations on your recent appointment to the RECCo Board. What made you want to join the Board?
I am slightly obsessed with energy policy and regulation so being part of the Retail Energy Code Company Board is the perfect role for me.
It’s brilliant to be able to shape a new and growing organisation during such a pivotal time. It’s very challenging for the retail industry at the moment and anything we can do to make the sector operate more smoothly will help Net Zero transition. I wanted to be part of that change and help transform and support the consumer-facing part of the energy industry.
How do you think your experiences so far will benefit the RECCo Board?
At RECCo, I am the Non-Executive Director responsible for policy, regulation, and Net Zero related matters. In the past I have developed a wide range of energy and decarbonisation related policy for the Government (at DECC/BEIS), including leading the team that advised on the Net Zero target. I have also worked at energy suppliers SSE/OVO, so have seen the issues facing the industry first hand. I am a solicitor by professional background, having previously worked at Clifford Chance advising investors and developers of energy projects. Finally, I am active across the energy and climate sector, being involved in a number of projects and initiatives so hopefully I can bring all-around knowledge and fresh ideas to RECCo.
What do you think RECCo should prioritise over the next 12 months?
We’re still a new organisation so the main focus will be getting the Retail Energy Code and related processes to work for the industry. However, we also need to make progress on one or two areas which will help suppliers offer more decarbonisation related products and services to their customers. As a board we have some ideas that might support the retail sector decarbonise their consumer base faster but we’re looking at the industry to feed in ideas that would help them. These could be regulatory solutions as part of a Code change; or shared services that would benefit the whole industry.
Finally, what keeps you busy outside of work?
I love Power Grid - the board game - but for some reason rarely find anyone to play it with….
Other than that, I love being bad at every possible sport from trail running to cycling to flipping tractor tyres on a farm…
